Dumpling
A small piece of dough, plain or wrapped around a filling, cooked by boiling, steaming or frying.
Dumpling is a broad English word. It covers filled parcels such as Chinese jiaozi, Japanese gyoza, Korean mandu, Tibetan and Nepali momo, Polish pierogi, Russian pelmeni and Italian ravioli. It also covers plain lumps of dough cooked in stew, common in Britain and central Europe. Fillings range from pork and cabbage to potato, cheese and fruit. Making filled dumplings is slow work, and in many cultures families gather to do it together before a festival.
