Ekadashi
The eleventh day of each lunar fortnight, kept as a fast day by many Hindus.
Also: Ekadasi
Ekadashi falls twice in every lunar month, on the eleventh day after the new moon and after the full moon. Many Hindus, above all devotees of Vishnu, fast on it. Some take only water. More commonly people give up grains and pulses for the day and eat fruit, milk, nuts and permitted foods such as sago, potatoes and buckwheat. This has produced a whole range of fasting dishes, including sabudana khichdi.
