Pareve
In Jewish dietary law, food that is neither meat nor dairy and may be eaten with either.
Also: parve, parev
Pareve is a Yiddish term for neutral food. Because Jewish law forbids mixing meat and milk, every food falls into one of three groups: meat, dairy or pareve. Pareve foods contain neither. They include fruit, vegetables, grains, eggs and fish. Such foods can be served at a meat meal or a dairy meal. A pareve label on a package is also useful to people who avoid milk for health reasons.
