Prix fixe
A meal of several courses sold at one set price.
Also: fixed-price menu
Prix fixe is French for fixed price. The restaurant offers a meal of two, three or more courses for a single stated sum. There may be a small choice within each course. For the guest, the bill is known in advance. For the kitchen, planning and buying are simpler. In practice the term overlaps almost entirely with table d'hote. In France, the same idea is often printed on the board simply as the menu or formule.
